Call for more COVID-19 testing as PNG waits for rapid test kits
ABCThe head of Papua New Guinea's COVID-19 response has re-issued a call for people to come forward for testing, saying the country's testing rates are critically low. PNG currently has had 599 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the first emerged earlier this year, but Commissioner David Manning said that he expects there are "more cases than we currently know". His comments came as dozens of health care workers in the capital Port Moresby were trained on COVID-19 case investigation and sample collection, in an attempt to boost PNG's testing capacity. The WHO says the kits should boost testing in developing countries like PNG, that don't have extensive lab facilities or trained health workers. The chair of PNG's Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee Dr. Evelyn Lavu told the ABC in a statement, that "the MESAC has not been fully informed by WHO and National Health department about this new antigen test.
