Pelicans schedule released: NBA still hesitant to go all-in on Zion Williamson’s return
New York TimesAmong Pelicans fans, there couldn’t be more anticipation heading into the 2022-23 season. Despite the long-anticipated return of Zion Williamson and last year’s thrilling playoff run, the Pelicans don’t appear to be one of the teams at the very top of the NBA’s list. For comparison’s sake, New Orleans had 10 national TV games on the schedule at the start of last season, which was half as many as the 20 they got during Zion Williamson’s rookie year in 2019-20. TNT is scheduled to broadcast six Pelicans games this season: Oct. 25 vs. Dallas Nov. 15 at Memphis Jan. 31 at Denver Feb. 7 vs. Atlanta March 28 at Golden State March 30 at Denver ESPN is set to have five: Oct. 28 at Phoenix Feb. 10 vs. Cleveland Feb. 15 at LA Lakers March 1 at Portland March 8 vs. Dallas The Pels won’t be playing on the opening-night doubleheader, Christmas Day or Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as they had in recent years. If Williamson is healthy and tossing up highlight plays on a nightly basis, the NBA won’t hesitate to flex a few more Pelicans games onto national broadcasts late in the season.
