Vigil by Transport Department checks drastic surge-pricing during festivals by omni bus operators in Coimbatore
The HinduThe vigil maintained by the Transport Department authorities during the ‘puja’ holidays could, to a significant extent, ensure a deterrent effect on surge pricing of fares by omni bus operators in Coimbatore region. Last year, there were instances of omni bus operators charging as much as ₹4,000 as one-way fare to Chennai from Coimbatore against the usual fare hovering around ₹ 1,500 for sleeper seats. For the convenience of the travelling public, the Transport Department had placed flex boards at the omni bus stand and and a few other boarding points for lodging complaints through Whatsapp: 9384808304, about excess-fare levy by operators during the puja holidays. T According to the Transport Department officials, the large extent of special services operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation had also altered the demand-supply dynamics that the omni bus operators rely on to fix the fares for the festival days.
