Boris Johnson can hardly be called conservative as his Brexit battle intensifies

The 'great animator' And so, the great "animator" of British politics, Boris Johnson, assumed the leadership of the Conservative Party and with it the prime ministership of Britain. It may only be four days or so, but with MPs returning from the summer break to a new Prime Minister, a wholly new Cabinet and a Downing Street operation led by one of the key architects of the Vote Leave campaign, Mr Johnson is asserting himself with gusto. What Mr Johnson hoped might be perceived as a newly assertive British leader standing up to a Parliament unable to resolve Brexit might rapidly become a drama involving Mr Johnson, the Parliament and the Queen. The new British Prime Minister hopes his actions will signal to European leaders that Britain is unafraid of a no-deal Brexit, leading them to revisit the withdrawal agreement hated by Johnson.
