Karnataka govt asked to introduce Konkani as medium of education

India Today

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in a recent plea, has urged Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to introduce the language Konkani as a medium of education in the state, laying importance on the usage of mother tongue in the education system. This request was made by the academy with context to the National Education Policy 2020, which lays importance on the usage of mother tongue in educational institutes. As per the new education policy, which was approved by the Union Cabinet in July this year, the medium of instruction until at least Class 5 should be the mother tongue or regional language, as it helps the students grasp the concept better. Konkani as a medium of education The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in its letter to the chief minister, has requested that Konkani be used as a medium of education up to Class 5 and offered as a subject for classes above, as it will help the students understand the concepts better.
