The country’s foreign ministry confirmed Mr Xi’s attendance on Friday, ending speculation over his presence at the crucial summit. US president Joe Biden, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and several others have already reached Europe to attend the summit in Rome first, after which they will arrive at Glasgow for Cop26. There has been a lot of speculation over whether Mr Xi would attend the crucial summit, especially as he has not attended any international summit outside China since the onset of the pandemic.
