Tony Abbott demands Kevin Rudd make an explanation over home insulation scheme

ABC

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has demanded the Prime Minister give an explanation, not just an apology, over the Government's fatal home insulation program. "My absolute sympathy goes to the families and I think that if Greg Hunt wants to play politics with what is a human tragedy, then that's a decision for him," he said. He also ruled the scheme's handling by federal agencies led to "inadequate safeguards" and criticised the Federal Government for rushing the program through, in an effort to stimulate the economy during the global financial crisis. "We've done everything we can to ensure that the families have got legal advice, and I say again, I am deeply sorry, the Government is deeply sorry for what's occurred here."
