
Coimbatore industries welcome plans to develop pump and foundry sectors
The HinduThe industry associations in Coimbatore district have largely welcomed the announcements in the Tamil Nadu Budget presented on Friday. The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association welcomed the plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for Advanced Pump and Motor technologies in Coimbatore, develop semiconductor manufacturing parks in Sulur and Palladam of each 100 acres in collaboration with US, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan to propel the economic growth of Coimbatore region, establish new industrial estates by SIDCO at nine locations at ₹366 crore, and disbursement of ₹2.5 lakh crore bank loans to MSMEs. According to the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association, centres of excellence for pumps and foundries will be used to boost research and development to tap the international market and replacement of inefficient pumps worth ₹675 crore and Combined Water Supply Scheme worth over ₹6,500 crore is expected to spur demand in pumpsets and thereby the foundry industry. The Indian Pump Manufacturers’ Association said the centre of excellence for pumps will enable the industry to make high value pumps and make Coimbatore the pump city of the world. According to the Coimbatore Tirupur District Micro and Cottage Enterprises Association, while measures to develop industrial training institutes will benefit the industry, there is no announcement on reducing the electricity charges.
