Crowd pleasers Andy Murray and Serena Williams march into third round of Wimbledon mixed doubles

Thank goodness for the Special Relationship. UK-US diplomatic relations may currently be stretching to breaking point, but on the tennis court the Brits have an American to thank for keeping their most likely Wimbledon hopeful alive. On a largely disappointing day elsewhere for the home players, Serena Williams produced a "once in a lifetime" display of such staggering brilliance that Andy Murray suggested she should be nominated for an honorary Damehood. That may be a stretch, but thanks to Williams' brilliance 'Serandy' - or 'Murena' as she prefers - produced a 7-5, 6-3 victory over 14th seeds Fabrice Martin and Raquel Atawo to storm into the third round of the mixed doubles. Let's go with the return off a 137mph Martin serve in the first set that pinged off her strings and flew past the dumbstruck 6ft 6in Frenchman for a clean winner.
