NAPLAN results: ACT tops nation in reading, grammar and punctuation

The latest national NAPLAN report shows the ACT — along with NSW and Victoria — continues to lead the nation in academic performance. New ACT education strategy flagged ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry told 666 ABC Canberra while she was pleased with the NAPLAN report, it was not a definitive measure of the quality of education provided in the territory. "One of the things I want to do is develop a strategy for education in the ACT, including early childhood development, to work out where we need to go now," she said. Ms Berry said one area of note in the report was that the gains from Year 3 to 5, 7 and 9 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students were greater than those for non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in reading and numeracy for the 2014 to 2016 cohort. "It's important that we use this information, alongside the information gained from our specific Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs to continue to support these students," she said.
