Afghanistan crisis: Taliban plans to hold oath-taking ceremony on September 11
India TV NewsThe interim government of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan is likely to take the oath of office on September 11, a day which also marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the US in 2001. As per reports, the newly-formed Taliban government has rolled out invitations to various countries to be part of the oath-taking ceremony, including China, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Qatar, India, and interestingly, the US. However, the international community is still not ready to recognize the announced interim government of the Taliban and has raised questions over the non-inclusivity of various other ethnic groups. "We note the list of names consists exclusively of individuals who are members of the Taliban or their close associates and no women," stated the US State Department spokesperson. On the other hand, the Taliban have lashed out at the international criticism against the members of their interim setup, especially the US, who they say are violating the Doha peace agreement by not recognizing the interim Taliban government.
