Boeing gets the go ahead for 77x megajet with folding wings

Boeing has cleared a major hurdle in making the world's largest twin-engine jet a reality. Scroll down for video Boeing has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration on a novel design for folding wingtips that will be built into its yet-to-be-released 777x megajet Boeing unveiled the design for its sci fi-like jetliner several years ago, but required regulatory approval from the Federal Aviation Administration in order to move forward with production. As part of the FAA's approval, the agency also outlined a series of requirements that Boeing must meet, creating a completely new series of 'special conditions' for aircraft design standards around the new foldable wings. The 777-9X cabin will be 16 inches wider than the A350-1000, Boeing says, allowing economy-class seat widths up to 18 inches The wings are the largest-ever created by Boeing, but still have a ways to catch up to Airbus SE's double-decker A380, which has wings that are 262 feet wide The 777-9X's windows will also be 15% larger than competing airliners, Boeing says, and placed at a height that will be eye level for most passengers.
