After more than 40 years as an actor, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal donned the director's hat for Barroz. The children's film opened to mixed reviews and a lukewarm response at the box office. Explaining the film's limited box office collection, the actor said, "We've released only 3D prints, and that was the best decision. The actor-turned-director shared that Kerala produced the first 3D film in India and now, after 40 years, they have attempted superior-quality work with Barroz to carry the legacy forward.
