Opinion: Ceasefire in Gaza - Hamas needs to make intelligent choices
India TodayThe Middle East has been in a fast-forward mode for the past few months. On January 6, Hamas put out a list of 34 hostages that it offered to free in the first lot as a part of a ceasefire deal. While Hamas is insisting that the ceasefire deal should end the war in Gaza and should be accompanied by the complete withdrawal of IDF from the Gaza Strip, Israel is thinking differently. Trump 2.0 is likely to support Israel in all its moves in the war, and a free hand to Israel could spell further trouble for Hamas Israel has made it very clear that the IDF will not vacate the Gaza Strip, and Hamas does have the tools to ensure anything contrary to it There is little support for the continuation of the war in Gaza in the Arab world Hezbollah, a key ally with Hamas, was supporting the war in Gaza and fighting Israel in the North. In November last year, however, it was offered the Hezbollah-Israel ceasefire on terms ultimately favouring Israel, and yet it agreed to it The most critical issue which triggered the Gaza war, ie, the Palestine issue looks dead and buried, at least in the current times.
