Response sought on implementation of safety measures along road stretch
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday sought response of the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety at IIT — Madras with regard to implementation of safety measures along the road stretch from Fatima College to Samayanallur in Madurai. The court was hearing a public interest litigation petition filed in 2023 by N. Senthil Kumar of Paravai in Madurai district, who had complained about lack of proper safety measures along the road stretch. Earlier in November 2024, the judges inspected the road and made suggestions to the authorities with regard to the safety measures, including reducing the gap between median blocks at a few places. The Corporation and the Highways Department officials, in a joint operation, removed encroachments along Fatima College — Paravai stretch of Madurai — Dindigul Highway.
