Self-test kits could lead to unreported cases, warn officials

A surge in the demand for Covid-19 self-testing kits has raised concerns about underreporting of cases even as health officials termed these kits “a boon” as they have taken a significant load off the traditional Covid-19 testing infrastructure amid the fifth wave of the pandemic in the city. Chemist associations in the city said the demand for self-test kits has increased in the past one week due to a spike in Covid cases. Sandeep Nangia, president of Retail Distribution Chemist Alliance in Delhi, said, “Around 5,000 plus self-test kits are being sold daily. “In south Delhi, we are providing around 3,000 kits daily,” said Nangia, who is also the organising secretary of All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists.
