Controversial, but I’m calling it. My view is people got used to ultra low interests rates for so long and the normalization is those rates is being called a cost of living crisis. Consumer spending has been subdued for months on end, but this being a sales period means people aren't having to spend as much to buy these items — so the billions of dollars really are representative of more people deciding they see the value in purchasing items since they won't be paying full price. I'm reasonably familiar with Dubbo's restaurant scene, and while I won't speak for all of them, it's a pretty safe bet that the prices on their menus have increased over the past couple of years. As for those dining out on Wednesday night in Dubvegas, this time of year is rife with Christmas party and end of year celebrations — not to mention that Dubbo is a pretty popular spot for travellers since it's where the Newell, Mitchell and Golden Highways meet.
