Fake call centre operating as Microsoft technical support busted in Kolkata

In a major breakthrough in its crackdown against cyber fraud, West Bengal police on Saturday busted a fake call centre operating under the guise of Microsoft technical support, allegedly defrauding foreign nationals, particularly US citizens, officials said. A team of state police conducted a raid on a flat in Kolkata's Narayanpur on Saturday afternoon, and discovered that a group of individuals were running an illegal call centre. They were involved in deceiving victims into believing they were receiving genuine technical support while illicitly amassing money through Hawala transactions, officials added. During interrogation, the fake call centre operators failed to produce any valid documentation for the business they were running.
