Sinwar’s death is moment for ceasefire, Starmer tells Israel
The TelegraphIsrael must use the death of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader, as a moment to agree to a Gaza ceasefire, the Prime Minister said on Friday as he warned that there was “no military solution” to the conflict. But in remarks that appeared to challenge Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, who has vowed to continue the conflict, he stressed that there was “no military solution – the answer is diplomacy”. Sir Keir said that “we must make the most of this moment”, referring to Israel confirming the death of Sinwar on Thursday, to secure “a ceasefire in Gaza, immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, immediate access to humanitarian aid and a return to the path towards the two-state solution”. Speaking after a meeting with the American, French and German leaders, the Prime Minister said: “No one should mourn the death of Hamas leader Sinwar.
