CV Raman, Alipurduar divisional railway manager of the Northern Frontier Railways, said in July 2018 after an accident, "We have imposed a 24-hour speed restriction along a 15km stretch between Chalsa and Banarhat stations in the Dooars. In July this year, the Northern Frontier Railways was even awarded for its innovative method of trying to keep elephants from crossing railway tracks when a train is about to pass: a 'buzzer'.
