Chris Froome crash: Four-time Tour champion will remain in intensive care 'for next couple of days'
The TelegraphChris Froome will remain in intensive care “for the next couple of days” after undergoing almost eight hours of surgery on Wednesday night to repair fractures in his femur, hip and elbow following his high-speed crash at the Critérium du Dauphiné. Sir Dave Brailsford, the Ineos team principal, told reporters ahead of Thursday’s Dauphiné stage that the surgery had been a success, praising the hospital in Saint-Étienne for their “exemplary” work. The four-time Tour champion had been hoping to draw level next month with Jacques Anqutetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain as the joint most successful rider in the race’s 116-year history. Brailsford said Froome had taken his hands off his handlebars to “blow his nose” towards the bottom of a descent.
