Coronavirus empties shopping centres as clothing retailers fight to stay open

It's only 11:30am on a weekday at Westfield's Chermside Shopping Centre in Brisbane's north, but it feels like it's hours after the shops have closed. It's surprising to see the glittering shop window of boutique diamond jeweller Starfire full of stock and the store open. Two doors down, Tanya Shepley, the owner of women's boutique White Owl, said she felt guilty about being open at all. "Whilst we're open, I feel very conflicted because I know the messaging is to stay home … so then it's kind of like, 'I'm opening the doors for what real reason?'
