Karnataka Disaster Management Authority to get ₹365 crore worth overhaul

The State Government has proposed to build a dedicated swanky airport-like building for the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority at Yelahanka and overhaul the authority at an estimated cost of ₹365 crore. How proposed ₹365 crore will be spent Infrastructure Development Construction of a sustainable green building and campus near the international airport Development of large-scale training facilities, including an 800-person conference hall Establishment of hostel facilities for trainees and visiting faculty Integration of modern technology for real-time disaster monitoring and response Institutional Capacity Building Creation of the State Institute of Disaster Management with advanced training programs Collaboration with premier institutions for specialized training modules Implementation of a Disaster Management Experiential Learning Centre Establishment of the Centre for Climate Action for School Children Operational Enhancement Integration with KSNDMC for better disaster coordination Development of Blended Finance and Risk Insurance mechanisms Adoption of modern disaster management systems and technologies Creation of sustainable operational frameworks for long-term resilience According to the Environment and Social System Assessment document of the Word Bank accessed by The Hindu, of the ₹3,500 crore World Bank fund, ₹800 crore will be disbursed to the Revenue Department for various projects, including a building for KSDMA. Rashmi V. Mahesh, Principal Secretary to Revenue Department, told The Hindu, “The ₹365 crore will be used to construct a state-of-the-art green building and campus for the KSDMA, and the State Institute of Disaster Management to be housed in KSDMA and operated through Memorandum of Understandings with premier institutions who will prepare modules and operate the training programmes. The same campus will also have the Disaster Management Experiential Learning Centre as part of the World Bank project.
