Kevin Stefanski’s playbook and use of tight ends: A love story set in Cleveland

New York Times

In these strange times, there’s space for a good love story, a tale of pursuit, persistence and a long-lasting attraction. The new Browns’ coach used multiple tight ends on a league-high 57 percent of the snaps last season when Stefanski was calling the plays for the Vikings. “The ‘Y’ tight end is the in-line blocker, the point of attack guy,” Stefanski said in an interview this week with 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland. Kyle Rudolph, the Vikings’ top tight end, caught 39 of 48 targets last season, matched Hooper with six touchdowns and averaged 9.4 yards per catch. At tight end they have Hooper, Njoku, Brown, Bryant and Stephen Carlson, an undrafted rookie last season who caught a touchdown pass in the Browns’ November win over the Steelers.
