Will Trump’s Florida documents case now move to D.C.?

Slate

On Monday morning, just before the Republican National Convention opened, Aileen Cannon, the Trump-appointed federal judge overseeing the stolen classified documents trial in Florida, dismissed the case, ruling that Jack Smith’s appointment as special counsel was unconstitutional. Now, part of the reason why it’s ultimately on a fast track to the Supreme Court is because this is not the only case that Jack Smith has brought against former President Trump. There’s been speculation that at a certain point, the special counsel will ask the 11th Circuit to remove Judge Cannon from the case. At the end of the day, though, I think that this case probably does go forward, because I think the Supreme Court ultimately does rule that the special counsel is lawfully appointed—again, with the caveat that I might be naïve—unless former President Trump is reelected and drops the charges against himself.
