Punjab to give permanent jobs to 35,000 temporary workers

India Today

Nearly 35,000 Punjab government workers on contracts will now be made permanent employees of the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, within days of taking over the reins of the state after a mammoth election scoop, announced that Group C and Group D workers on contracts will be made permanent. Last week, the Punjab Cabinet, in its first meeting after coming to power, approved 25,000 government jobs in state departments, boards and corporations for the people of Punjab - of which 10,000 will be created in the police department and the rest in other departments. The job vacancies will be notified within a month, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said.
