Updated: Cub Sport's Tim Nelson comes out as gender 'free' ahead of new album and tour
ABCIt's the beginning of a new era for Cub Sport. In a post shared with Cub Sport fans, Tim explains that "the gender binary has made navigating life more difficult," going on to explain his decision to "move forward identifying as 'free'," positioning themselves outside the gender binary. Premiered on triple j Good Nights, the gritty single doesn't sound much like anything the group have done before, with stylised distortion and soaring metallic lines as Tim sings: "The truth is I don't want to be one of the boys/The truth is living by a gender makes me feel annoyed." Loading "The lyrics flowed in a stream of consciousness and when I listened back, I realised I’d articulated lots of things I’d been avoiding saying out loud," Tim said in a statement. To commemorate the release of Like Nirvana, the full-length follow-up to last year's self-titled album, Cub Sport will play three club shows in April with special guest Vlossom.
