Congress opposes Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill

The Modi government on Monday introduced the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Bill, that seeks to do away with the automatic nomination of the President of the Indian National Congress to the Jallianwala Bagh Trust and gives more power to the Central government to terminate the term of a nominated trustee. The Bill amends the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Act, 1951. Consequently, in February the Lok Sabha passed The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Bill, 2018 which proposes to remove the President of the Indian National Congress as a trustee. The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Bill, 2019 was one of the 40 bills proposed by the Modi government in its first parliamentary session of the 17th Lok Sabha.
