India’s Bindyarani Devi wins silver at Asian Weightlifting Championships
The HinduCommonwealth Games silver medallist Bindyarani Devi aggregated 194kg to secure the silver medal in the women’s 55kg category at the Asian weightlifting championships in Jinju on Saturday. Bindyarani lifted 83kg in her second snatch attempt and 111kg in her second clean and jerk effort to come second behind 18-year-old Chinese Taipei lifter Chen Guan Ling, who took the top honour with a total of 204kg. Bindyarani, who had achieved her personal best of 116kg in clean and jerk and 202kg in total at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year, tried 115kg in her final attempt with an aim to bag the No.1 position in clean and jerk but could not achieve her target. Competing in Group-B, Shubham Todkar finished overall 10th in men’s 61kg weight category.
