Elgar Parishad case: Petition to NIA, state govt to move Varavara Rao to hospital
India TodayNoted Historian Romila Thapar and four other petitioners have appealed to the Maharashtra government and NIA to facilitate hospitalisation of Varavara Rao who has been under arrest since November 2018 and later handed over to NIA in the month of Feb 2020. The appeal says that according to press reports and the statement of Varavara Rao's family, the renowned Telugu poet and writer, is extremely ill in Taloja jail. Venugopal, nephew of Varavara Rao told India Today TV over the telephone that Varavara Rao talks to his family members once in 10 days from Taloja Jail. Romila Thapar along with four others have appealed to the Government of Maharashtra and the National Investigation Agency to facilitate the immediate transfer of Varavara Rao to JJ Hospital where he can receive proper treatment. Sources at Taloja Jail said Rao's health is being monitored closely and he can be immediately shifted to JJ Hospital if the doctors at the Taloja Jail find his health deteriorating.
