Kerala looks at nuclear power to address state's electricity demands?

India Today

Kerala could get a nuclear power station if it provides the land required, as suggested during a recent meeting between Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and State Power Minister K Krishnankutty. The proposal came up while Kerala requested the central government to utilise its thorium reserves and allocate the resulting power to the state. Union Minister Khattar acknowledged Kerala’s dependency on imported power due to limited domestic production and hydroelectric reliance. He indicated the central government’s willingness to consider a nuclear power project if Kerala provides the required land, but no detailed discussions followed.
