Golden Globes 2025: That was rough. But a familiar face proved one saving grace.
SlatePresenting is always a tough role at any awards show, but this year’s Golden Globes presenters seemed to really struggle. The Substance’s Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley seemed drunk as they stumbled through their presentation for Best Male Actor in a Television Series ; Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford white-knuckled their way through a seemingly intentionally awkward presentation for Best Animated Motion Picture, and I still couldn’t tell you what Ariana DeBose and Ke Huy Quan were doing when they were up to bat. There were some small highlights—Kathy Bates turning to Anthony Ramos and asking “Ya feel me?”; presenter Vin Diesel directly addressing a seated Dwayne Johnson, reinvigorating the movie stars’ infamous beef—but overall the Globes presenters were, in a word, dull. One hilarious facetious example was a time when actor Billy Bob Thornton was “allowed to bring his pet coyote” but she “wasn’t even allowed” to bring along her “overweight triplets.” She then jokingly added, “Thank God they let me bring them tonight,” and pointed off camera, calling out, “Hey, Sheila and Sheila and Sheila!” You could hear the Globes audience laugh harder than they had throughout the majority of the night—perhaps louder even than during the opening monologue from host Nikki Glaser.
