Tamil Nadu fishermen sacrifice net to save endangered dugong caught with fish

India Today

A dugong, caught along with fish, was released by kind-hearted fishermen who cut their nets to do so. A video of the good samaritans showed them cutting their fishing net to set free a trapped dugong. As they brought their nets ashore in the wee hours, the group found a large sea creature, about 6 ft long, trapped in the net that belonged to a fisherman named Prabhakaran. The concerned fishermen then meticulously cut their net making sure the dugong was not hurt in any manner. In the video of the release, one of the fishermen could be heard speaking soothingly to the dugong to keep it calm like he was speaking to a child.
