Huawei is working on a new mobile OS in case US bans it from using Android
Huawei is in deep trouble. "There is no doubt that Huawei is capable of doing it, but for now I dont think it is necessary since we work very closely with Google and will continue to use its Android system," he said on the sidelines of the Global Mobile Internet Conference in Beijing last week. Last month, the US department of Commerce found Huawei's key competitor ZTE guilty of violating similar sanctions following which it was banned from buying any components from US suppliers till 2025. In effect, this means that ZTE will not be able to buy products from Google, Qualcomm and Intel-- something that might happen in case of Huawei if it is found to violate similar sanctions. Two years ago, a subpoena was issued against the company for allegedly shipping US-origin products for over five years to countries including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria for violating US trade sanctions.
