CRPF asks its Manipur-origin personnel to report to nearest base after CoBRA commando shot dead
A day after a Central Reserve Police Force commando was killed in violence-hit Manipur, the central force has directed all units to ascertain the number of jawans and officials belonging to the State who are presently on leave and may need assistance to shift to safer locations, a senior government official said on Saturday. On Friday, a CRPF commando identified as C. Haokip, who was on leave, was killed around noon at Bishnupur district in Manipur, one of the worst-affected areas. Mr. Haokip was reportedly killed trying to protect Siden village that had come under attack from armed assailants though CRPF officials said they were ascertaining the circumstances in which he was killed. Another official said the CRPF had evacuated around 10,000 people from the vicinity of capital Imphal to security camps and temporary accommodation.
