Veteran snake catcher wants new generation to take over NSW job but there's not a lot of interest

After more than three decades of catching snakes, Paul Newcombe is ready to retire. "If someone rings to say there's a snake in their daughter's bedroom, I can't just say, 'No, I'm not coming'," Mr Newcombe said. "It's 24/7 as people can call any time day or night to say there's a snake in the house or the backyard and they need help." "There aren't many young snake catchers coming into the industry who stick with it," he said. Mr Thompson said it had been an entertaining start to his career with one recent call out to catch an eastern brown snake in a family's fridge.
