Technology developed by NASA helping to 'sniff out' pregnancy in Queensland cows from 18 days

When NASA set out to improve the health of its astronauts, it could never have known it would be helping pregnant cows in Australia. Key points: Space technology developed by NASA is being used to detect pregnancy in cows from as early as 18 days The technology was first created to detect harmful chemicals in the International Space Station Graziers who have used the hand-held device say it is a "game changer" for Australia's cattle industry But farmer Bronwyn Darlington saw a chance to hack the technology and the way she's adapted its use could be a game changer for the cattle industry. By adapting the breath diagnostic technology developed by NASA, she was able to take the breath of a cow and detect pregnancy from as early as 18 days. Hands-off method a 'game changer' Rather than detecting pregnancy through more invasive and expensive methods, the AgScent technology allows producers to test for pregnancy and have results within minutes. Bronwyn Darlington developed AgScent using NASA e-nose technology and adapeted it to use on livestock.
