ACT food scraps collection program expanding but Canberra-wide rollout facing delays
A food and garden organics collection scheme that kicked off in more than 5,000 Canberra homes in 2021 is being expanded to some multi-unit developments, but it is behind on delivery. ACT City Services Minister Tara Cheyne says the FOGO program had to take a back seat to replacing Canberra's recycling facility. ACT Minister for City Services Tara Cheyne said having a recycling facility for Canberra was "really critical", with the capital's recyclables currently being transported to Sydney. "So that's been the focus over this term since that very unfortunate fire, and that has meant that FOGO and the facility have had to take a little bit of a back seat," she said. "We'll start to roll those out over the coming weeks as people are made aware of which complexes are invited but I think it's going to be a really nice way of transitioning into a future of FOGO within the ACT," she said.
