'That's capitulating!' Dem senator slams colleagues who want to cave on GOP bill

Raw Story

Sen. Cory Booker argued Thursday that Democrats would be "capitulating" to President Donald Trump if they allowed the continuing resolution passed by the House of Representatives this week to sail through the Senate. In an interview with CNN's Manu Raju, Booker said letting the government shut down was preferable to allowing Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk continue to shut down entire federal agencies without any oversight or authorization from the legislative branch. "This is saying let's just give up even more of our constitutional authority because, hey, he can do a lot worse later on," said Booker. Raju noted that not all Democrats were on the same page, however, as Sen. John Fetterman has said that he will vote to allow the bill to come to the floor because he does not believe a government shutdown serves anyone's interests.
