Raye won big at the Brit Awards. This recognition has been a long time coming
ABCWhen Raye took to social media to air her grievances with her record company, she lifted the lid on a litany of frustrations that had been bubbling to the surface over many years. "I have been signed to a major label since 2014…and I have had albums on albums of music sat in folders collecting dust, songs I am now giving away to A list artists because I am still awaiting confirmation that I am good enough to release an album." Raye, whose real name is Rachel Agatha Keen, said she had been signed to a four-album deal, and despite "working seven days a week" and doing "everything" she said the label asked her to do, including switching from R&B to dance music, Polydor failed to greenlight a debut album from her. Raye's other Brit Award wins were for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best R&B Act. The album Raye fought so hard to make Raye's debut album, My 21st Century Blues is one of those rare releases that is both pop and deep.
