Launching the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan portal for credit support to entrepreneurs from disadvantaged sections of society virtually on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “This is a testament to our commitment to provide dignity and justice to the underprivileged. Modi gives you this guarantee - this campaign of development and respect for the deprived class will intensify in the coming 5 years.” While launching the portal, the Prime Minister also disbursed around ₹720 crore worth of credit to 1 lakh beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste, Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, and Other Backward Classes communities and Safai Karamcharis, residing in over 500 districts across the country. Social Justice Minister Virendra Kumar, who was attending the event with a crowd of beneficiaries in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, said later on Wednesday evening in a social media post, “Today, the Modi government is giving priority to the underprivileged and is working to send the money of the poor directly into their accounts.” After having interacted with the beneficiaries, Prime Minister Modi listed out the different credit schemes, scholarship programmes, employment opportunities, and other DBT schemes that had been made available to people from marginalised sections of society and said, “Government is making all possible efforts to empower the SC, ST and OBC communities.” Mr. Modi said that he had “broken the mindset of the past” to ensure that basic facilities are made available to Dalits, Tribals, Backward and Deprived Classes of people, generations of whom, the Prime Minister said, have had to “waste” their lives just to arrange basic facilities. “Keeping in mind the entrepreneurship among Dalits, our government has also launched the Ambedkar Social Innovation and Incubation Mission,” PM Modi added.
