Bluesfest, cancelled by coronavirus, accused of being unethical for refusing to refund stallholders

ABC

Small businesses who have paid to hold stalls at Bluesfest, one of the country's largest music festivals, are angry organisers have refused to refund their money despite the event not going ahead. Key points: Stallholders want a refund on compassionate grounds after the festival was cancelled Bluesfest says it is not required to do so and has gone beyond its legal requirements The live music sector has been hard hit and festivals are seeking ways to return But the festival's director says it has offered more than what it is required to and that business owners need to understand the dire state of the live music industry. But Bluesfest festival director Peter Noble AM said while he was sympathetic, the festival does not "have the money available" to refund the fees. In their letter to Bluesfest, stallholders said it was "debatable" whether international acts would be allowed entry to Australia for next year's festival and that would impact the event's success, if it did go ahead.
