Department of Posts achieves over 10 lakh ‘Selvamagal Semippu’ scheme accounts in southern region

Department of Posts, Southern Region, has achieved over 10 lakh accounts of ‘Selvamagal Semippu’ scheme since its inception. According to a press release, in January 2025, the region crossed 7.86 lakh accounts. An account under the scheme can be opened for girl children below 10 years of age by parent or legal guardian with minimum of ₹250 and maximum of ₹1.5 lakh per financial year. Deposits made under the scheme provide tax benefit up to ₹1.5 lakh per financial year under Section 80 C of the Income Tax Act.
