Jaguars fire coach Doug Pederson after 3 seasons, will bring back GM Trent Baalke

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired coach Doug Pederson on Monday after a three-year tenure that began with promise but trended downward for the better part of the last two seasons, team owner Shad Khan announced. “I had the difficult task this morning of informing Doug Pederson of my intention to hire a new head coach to lead the Jacksonville Jaguars,” Khan said in a statement. With a 22-29 record over three seasons, Pederson’s 42 percent win rate puts him as the third-best Jaguars coach in history with at least 10 games coached, behind Tom Coughlin and Jack Del Rio. The Jaguars hired Pederson in 2022 to bring a sense of normalcy back to a team still reeling from the aftershocks of Urban Meyer’s tenure, an 11-month stretch that one veteran member of the football operations staff called “the most toxic environment I’ve ever been a part of.” As coach of the 2018 Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, Pederson was also expected to bring a level of experience and pedigree not seen in Jacksonville in years.
