Separate domestic violence laws recommended by reform body
ABCNew family protection orders for domestic violence victims was one of the key recommendations made to the WA Government to reform the justice system. The Law Reform Commission made 73 recommendations in a report tabled in State Parliament which aims to ensure domestic violence victims are protected by law. One of the commission's key recommendations was the creation of a specific domestic violence protection law, the Family and Domestic Violence Protection Order Act, which would mean family and domestic violence orders would be separated from restraining orders in other contexts. "In particular, a new separate act will permit and promote a clearer and stronger articulation of the distinct legislative objects and principles in relation to family and domestic violence."
