South Australia's royal commission into domestic violence hears regional areas don't have enough evidence collection services

The Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence in South Australia has heard a lack of services vital to collecting evidence of sexual assault in regional areas has resulted in some victim-survivors walking away from potential prosecutions of perpetrators. Family and domestic violence support services: If you need help immediately call emergency services on triple-0 1800 Respect National Helpline: 1800 737 732 Women's Crisis Line: 1800 811 811 Men's Referral Service: 1300 766 491 Lifeline: 131 114 The director of South Australia's Health and Recovery Trauma Safety Services, Katrina Dee, told the commission victim-survivors in regional and remote areas sometimes have to travel, by themselves, to Adelaide or Alice Springs for examinations. South Australia Police Detective Chief Superintendent Cath Hillard told the commission that when there is no local testing, it's best practice for officers to transport victim-survivors to Adelaide, unless the victim-survivor wishes otherwise. South Australia's Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence is investigating prevention, early intervention, state responses, recovery and healing, and coordination of efforts.
