Kerala to withdraw controversial order fixing buffer zone around dams
The Kerala government has decided to withdraw the controversial order issued by the Water Resources department fixing a 20-meter buffer zone and another 100-meter construction restriction in the vicinity of dams under the department. The department issued the order on December 26, 2024 fixing guidelines for the issuance of no objection certificate for construction activities in the vicinity of reservoirs under it, leading to resentment among those who reside on the premises of dams or their catchment areas. In good faith: Minister The Minister said the order was issued “in good faith” as per the instruction of the Kerala High Court. A new order will be issued after considering all these concerns of the people living in the area and taking into account the opinions of the MLAs,” said the Minister.
