‘I just want to play’: Michael McNiven on frustration, lack of communication

Not much was known about Michael McNiven when he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Canadiens at the start of the 2015-16 campaign. “That’s been the kind of year I’ve had,” said McNiven. “They told me to play as much as possible, but it’s hard to play when you don’t have an affiliate,” said McNiven. “Honestly, it wasn’t bad in Adirondack because I had some familiarity with Waked and Verbeek,” said McNiven. “I’m feeling good, doing my own thing, waiting for my opportunity.” That opportunity probably won’t come in Laval, even though McNiven posted a.902 save percentage in 30 games for the defensively suspect Rocket last year.
