EXPLAINED: What is the significance of the white jacket at Champions Trophy?

The Hindu

Although the first edition of the ICC Champions Trophy was held in Bangladesh in 1998, only the 2009 iteration in South Africa saw the introduction of the iconic white jackets, a badge of honour adorned by each member of the winning team. The jacket, unveiled on August 13, 2009, was conceptualised by Mumbai fashion designer Babita M, whose collections were retailed in several high-profile outlets. The jackets incorporated rich Italian wool blends combining texture and stripes. He said, “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy represents the best of the best and the unveiling of the white jacket, which symbolises greatness, will now build the excitement of the event across the global cricket community.”
