Check Overloading Of Public And Private Vehicles: Uttarakhand HC To SPs [Read Order]
The Uttarakhand High Court, on Thursday, directed the Senior Superintendents of Police and Superintendents of Police to check overloading of public conveyance as well as transport vehicles, including school vans.The order was issued on a Petition filed by one Mr. Arun Kumar, who had also pointed out that the buses from adjoining States were plying in Uttarakhand, without any. The Uttarakhand High Court, on Thursday, directed the Senior Superintendents of Police and Superintendents of Police to check overloading of public conveyance as well as transport vehicles, including school vans. The order was issued on a Petition filed by one Mr. Arun Kumar, who had also pointed out that the buses from adjoining States were plying in Uttarakhand, without any reciprocal arrangement between two States. Accepting such contentions, the Court observed, “It is the duty of the State Government to ensure that the motor vehicles are plied in the State strictly as per law.” It then took note of the number of accidents happening in the State due to its peculiar geographical and difficult terrain, and issued the following directions:
